Marcela is a Bolivian environmental engineer with a Master on Environmental Science. In her professional career, she held positions related to environmental management in the hydrocarbons and construction sector. She also carried out different volunteer activities focused on conservation of the environment as part of her professional development.
Marcela is the winner of one of the most prestigious scholarships in Bolivia, the Swiss-Bolivian scholarship of the Patiño Foundation. This scholarship allowed her to carry out her Master’s studies in Environmental Science, orientation Natural Hazards and Risk in Switzerland. After her Master’s, due to the quality of her thesis, she received the UNIL Geosciences and Environment Faculty Award and was offered the opportunity of temporarily working as an independent researcher on the development of a scientific article based on her Master project.
In La Paz, she was part of the “Agua Sustentable” NGO team. In this position she had the opportunity to be the Coordinator of a project financed by the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) that targets the Sajama National Park with the aim of helping more than ten indigenous communities adapt to climate change and to study its effects on the area.
