Wet peatlands offer nature-based solutions for many environmental challenges, including climate change mitigation, water regulation and biodiversity conservation. However, peatlands in many European countries are threatened or degraded.
National peatland strategies serve as a basis for coherent peatland management across sectors. Key elements and conditions for their development and implementation are summarized in a new policy brief entitled Peatland Strategies in Europe, which presents the outcomes of a workshop held in Bonn, Germany in October 2019.
