World Wetlands Day 2015

In 2015, Wetlands For Our Future was selected as the theme to draw attention to the numerous benefits wetlands provide for humanity. In addition to the outreach materials, a youth photo contest was organized and the general public invited to "Make a Pledge" for Wetlands on the World Wetlands Day main website. Courtesy of Biosphere Connections- Star Alliance, the winner of the Youth Photo Contest won a free flight to a wetland of their choice anywhere in the world.

World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on 2 February. This day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Since 1997, the Secretariat of the Convention provides outreach materials to help raise public awareness about the importance and value of wetlands.

Since its inception, the production and distribution of materials for World Wetlands Day have been financially supported by the Evian Project funded by the Danone Group.
