Connecting for Wetlands Action: an Intergenerational Dialogue

“Wetlands connect us through space and time, quietly supporting our life, our climb”

Power of Wetlands Poem

The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, in collaboration with Youth Engaged in Wetlands and other youth networks, is pleased to invite you to an online intergenerational dialogue on Wednesday, 20 October from 14.00 to 15.30 CET.

In recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Convention on Wetlands, this dialogue will examine how wetlands have connected actors from all of society and across generations -- from the founders of the Convention to tomorrow’s leaders -- to mobilize actions to protect, conserve and restore wetlands.

The speakers will discuss:

Different youth groups’ experiences and perspectives of wetlands conservation and key solutions they are leading.

  • Challenges and opportunities young people face working on wetlands issues. How can these be addressed to scale action?
  • The founding ambitions for the Convention on Wetlands: how have these evolved and compare to the ambitions of tomorrow’s leaders?
  • Examples of impactful collaborations across generations which are scaling conservation, restoration and wise use of wetlands.

This event will be moderated by representatives of youth conservation organisations and will feature diverse speakers including a Representative of Belgium to the Convention in 1971, when this international agreement was signed.
