The convention entered into force in Belarus on 25 August 1991.
Belarus currently has 26 sites designated as Wetlands of International Importance (Ramsar Sites), with a surface area of 777,895 hectares.

Note: On 22 November 1999, Belarus made its declaration of succession to the former Soviet Union in respect to the Convention on Wetlands, and the Convention came into force for Belarus as of the date of its independence, 25 August 1991.
