Launch of the Global Wetland Outlook: Special Edition 2021

A special edition of the Convention’s flagship publication, the Global Wetland Outlook: Special Edition 2021, will be launched on Wednesday, 15 December.

This special edition was prepared by the Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) on the occasion of the Convention’s 50^th anniversary and draws on more than 30 major assessments, among other sources, published since the first GWO was released in 2018. The report describes the COVID-19 pandemic and its implications for wetland conservation, trends in wetland wise use and conservation and what this tells us about how wetlands and people might better interact in the future, and how the Convention on Wetlands can be leveraged to address current challenges. Following the launch of the GWO 2021: Special Edition, the Convention will host an event in January 2022, which will encourage dialogue between science and policy, engaging key actors to discuss how to propel wetland conservation forward and how the Global Wetland Outlook 2021: Special Edition can contribute to that.
