World Wetlands Day 2022: United Nations Recognition
Wednesday, 2 February 2022 marks the first year that World Wetlands Day will be observed as a United Nations international day, following its adoption by the General Assembly on 30 August 2021.
The newly designated United Nations World Wetlands Day 2022 will champion the theme, “Wetlands Action for People and Nature”, highlighting the importance of actions to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands for human and planetary health.
A campaign toolkit has been developed and is available here, to facilitate coordinated global outreach. The toolkit includes the key messages and ideas for how to get involved this World Wetlands Day; other resources available to download on the website include a campaign poster, social media cards and children’s activities. Parties are encouraged to redouble efforts building on the designation of World Wetlands Day as an international day to mobilize the needed actions to reverse the loss of wetlands and ensure that we continue to benefit from these important ecosystems.
