Flore Lafaye de Micheaux holds a PhD degree in political ecology (University of Lausanne, Switzerland) and Master degrees in environmental sciences and civil engineering (ENTPE, INSA de Lyon, France). She has a broad background working in environmental and water policies, flood management, coastal ecosystem restoration and international cooperation. Her 25-year career brought her to Ethiopia, India, Switzerland and France. From 2010 to 2014, she joined the Embassy of France in India as Sustainable development counsellor. She worked from 2018 to 2021 at the IUCN secretariat in Gland to facilitate and strengthen the IUCN-IPBES strategic partnership, with a 50% secondment to IPBES secretariat, to support IPBES stakeholder engagement strategy. From October 2021, she joined the General Inspectorate of the French Ministry for Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, conducting various missions related to flood, wetlands – she led the French delegation to COP14 and to the on-going negotiations for a UN treaty on plastic pollution.
In her PhD research that she conducted in her mid-career, she mobilized theoretical frameworks of water-society relations in the Ganges River context in India. She is passionate about rivers, wetlands and about knowledge co-production processes.
