Josiane Aboniyo

Jeune expert - support technique (Afrique)

Josiane Aboniyo comes from Rwanda and has professional experience implementing, monitoring, and evaluating projects in climate change, environmental management, and chemicals and waste management. At the Secretariat of the Convention on Wetlands, Josiane will be the Junior Professional Technical Support for Africa.

Prior to joining the Secretariat, she most recently worked as an associate project officer with the World Meteorological Organization, leading communication, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination activities for an EU-funded FOCUS-AFRICA project.

Josiane has also worked with the UNEP, the Partnership Action for Green Economy (UN PAGE) Secretariat, UNITAR, and UN Volunteer.

She has field experience working in different African countries including Burkina Faso, Benin, Tanzania, and Rwanda working closely with farmers and local and national governments on numerous projects such as integrating climate change adaptation strategies and wetland management policies into national development strategies.

Josiane speaks English, French, Swahili and Kinyarwanda, holding a bachelor’s degree in Aquatic Environment Science and Conservation from University of Dar es Salaam and a master’s degree in Water Policy from the African Union University in Algeria. Furthermore, she holds a Strategic Project management for developing countries certificate with the Geneva Graduate Institute and completed a fellowship at the Global Policy Institute where she learned about public policy, diplomacy, and sustainability from 40+ global leaders.
